As the author of the original post, I should have probably clarified my original intent: The idea of thoroughly manufactured pop star such as Avril Lavigne slagging the abilities of another thoroughly manufactured pop star such as Jessica Simpson not only strikes me as laughable, but also ridiculous on its face. I can only assume that Avril also pointed out that Ashlee was a kettle and painted black to boot. There is, of course, a difference between performers and songwriters and my comments were intended to denigrate them. I'm a massive Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett fan, so naturally I don't think the less of them for not having written their tunes. I just found Avril's comments to be one of those great sort of postmodern moments. john On Nov 2, 2004, at 9:07 AM, Michael vg wrote: > > Listening to the latest TRACKS sampler this morning and what I thought > was a cover of Chicago's Saturday In The Park, turns out to be Jill > Sobule's total rip of said song called Cinnamon Park. > It appears she credits Lamm as songwriter, but for some reason > I find this more of a offense then someone who only sings > what others write. > I thought Greg's comments were dead on.
