YESTERDAYANDTODAYRECORDS.COM History of Skip Groff, aka Skip Nelson: Yesterday and Today Records was started in September 1977 by Skip Groff. Over the years, he became involved with many of the Washington DC punk/alternative groups, including producing many of the early Dischord bands,,including Minor Threat / SOA with Henry Rollins / Teen Idles,as well as The Slickee Boys and Black Market Baby. Skip also hosted a few local radio shows on such stations like WAVA, WPGC, WMUC,WOHN, and WINX, (he started in radio in 1966) and has worked in the music business over 35 years. In the early 70s, he produced DC metal giants PENTAGRAM as well as Toothpick Tommy & The Truckers on ERA and producing a segment of LUNEY LANDING by Captain Zap and The Motortown Cut-Ups on Motown. Over the years Skip's store accumulated more than 1,000,000 45's and close to 50,000 LP's. On Top Shelf Oldies, Skip as Skip Nelson concentrates on the 60s and early 70s, honing in on B sides, obscure LP tracks, and specializing in songwriters, producers and killer 45s in the Brit beat, USA garage, Girls, obscure Soul, and really, just anything that would sound great on the radio. That's how he did it when a music director in radio!! The Time machine(aka DC DYNAMOS) is on Tuesdays from 8pm-11 pm EST, and Skip Nelson alternates with Gary Mitchell and Lee Michael Demsey, all dedicated record collectors and veterans of the DC radio scene.
