It's become a joke on our radio show over the years whenever I talk about "The Greatest Record Ever Made," because I keep changing my mind about it. It's not so much that I'm flighty or fickle (though I am), it's just that I sincerely and enthusiastically view this subject as a simple variation of an old, old joke: How many songs can be the single greatest record ever made? An infinite number, if they tale turns. For the past several months, my all-time fave has been The Ramones' "Blitzkrieg Bop," which didn't even usedta be my favorite Ramones song, but it is now. It toppled previous choices "Do Anything You Wanna Do" by Eddie and the Hot Rods, "September Gurls" by Big Star, "I Wanna Be With You" by The Raspberries, "Baby Blue" by Badfinger, "It's My Life" by The Animals, and a rotatin' number of Beatles tunes (usually "Please Please Me" or "A Hard Day's Night," sometimes "No Reply"). And the hits just keep on comin'. CC! THIS IS ROCK 'N' ROLL RADIO Sunday nights from 9 to midnight Eastern USA time (with repeats all day Wednesday), on the web at wxxe.org Syracuse Community Radio
