I don't know if I can agree with either of the examples below. The remastered Hollies catalog, IMO, sounds magnficent. And I'm not sure what songs on EVOLUTION or BUTTERFLY need more muscle. That being said, the Hollies trib on Eggbert was excellent. Likewise, I don't think The Shoes were poorly recorded. Part of the greatness of BLACK VINYL SHOES is how the band turned their recording limitations into assets, both in terms of the cool, haunting harmony vocal sounds and the fuzzy guitars. And even in a big studio, they found a way to translate that vibe into proper recordings for Elektra. My theory on the Shoes trib is twofold: 1) Shoes wrote songs that were so basic that they are easily adaptable to harder or softer approaches, and, 2) while they had a distinct harmony vocal sound, none of the boys was really a top drawer lead vocalist, so better singers can have their way with the songs. Just my opinion - and SHOE FETISH is also one of the best tribute discs ever...
