My two cents: I'm with many of you on this, although I usually put "Twice Removed" at the top of my Sloan list--there's something innocent and uncalculated and just plain cool about that album--with "one Chord" and "Navy Blues" tied for second. On "Twice," it doesn't sound like they were trying to ape anyone, unlike everything they did after that record. That said, I also want to say that I'd put "Action Pact" just outside the top 3--it's the first record since "Twice" that sounds honestly self-assured and like a real rock band, as opposed to a nostalgia act. The songs aren't entirely up to the bar set by those first three (yeah, I know "Smeared" came first, but there was only an EP's worth of good stuff there). jb np: Ed Gorch "Coward" (www.knotworking.net) Jim wrote: There are only 3 Sloan albums I care to rank. I like the following: 1. One Chord to Another 2. Navy Blues 3. Twice Removed I LOVED (and still LOVE) One Chord... I've had trouble stomaching Sloan sometime after Between the Bridges. As they moved away from having what I considered an original, homemade '60s-based sound and just sounding like any OK opening band on a 1976 Wings tour, I gave up. I keep expecting them to come clean and put out an album that sounds like "classic" Foreigner. And I don't mean that in the "good" way.
