The initial release was supposed to have Randy Bachman on it....in fact, some Canadian newspapers ran a national story about it (without consulting with me). They said I was still looking for material [which we weren't] and I got bombarded with nearly 300 submissions. Randy never did record a track....and went off with the Guess Who on another tour. Then we got another member of the Guess Who sent a track....a swing version of "I Feel Fine". Alas, it was completely incongruent with the pop/rock flavour of the other material we were getting from people. Same goes for some other well-known 'stars' (Kim Fowley, Scott McCarl, et al) who sent GREAT versions....but when assembling this thing we had to juggle between good production vs. poor production, name acts vs. newcomers, with to include cover versions of Beatle cover versions (which we ultimately decided to disallow), and the headache that is the legalities of dealing with that sacred cow that is The Beatles (needless to say SONY/ATV have been unforgiving in royalty reductions -- which is a John, Paul, George & Ringo edict not SONY/ATV's....but otherwise quite co-operative). The set was actually compiled and assembled by a community of Beatlephiles -- Greg Godovitz (who claims the largest single Beatles memoribillia collection in Canada) and has performed a Beatles track our 500 with both Fludd, Goddo and The Carpet Frogs; Terry Draper of Klaatu who, at one time, was told he WAS a member of the Beatles; myself, my business partner (who has a seemingly unlimited knowledge of the Beatles...and owns some original song manuscripts including the score to "Yesterday") and this list's very own Beatle-ologist Gary "Pig" Gold. Alas, there was stuff we had to leave off....there was stuff that conflicted in one context but not in another....thus the freebie sampler we're giving away featuring material from acts that didn't suit the flavour of the double disc set but deserve to be heard....mainly the plethora of artists from both the Bullseye and Jam Records roster and some other notables. Brian...sorry your band has changed line-ups 12 times since this was recorded....hazards of the biz :-) Jaimie Vernon, President, Bullseye Records http://www.bullseyecanada.com Author, Canadian Pop Music Encyclopedia http://www.canoe.ca/JamMusicPopEncycloPages
