Back to the right coast and am still in the mood to post a concert review on audities.

Joe's Pub is a classy place for a gig, with a fine sound system, a delicious kitchen and modern furnishings. Nice place to catch the Davenports who put on a fine set (and I would say that here even if I didn't suspect Scott and Greg might read this.)

The set included two new songs plus a cover of Sam Phillip's "Strawberry Road", plus of course the stuff you'd expect. The band was augmented by a violinist and cellist, and I really enjoyed Greg Beshers' guitar licks.

"Hi-Tech Lowlife" is a bold album, with sophisticated arrangements very unlike the live renditions. Scott Klass' songwriting is very complicated, with a very retro sound. In fact, putting aside the technology, the songs have a turn-of-the-century feel - January 1901 that is. It will certainly make my top ten list.
