Whoever did the mastering for the Emmit Rhodes S/T (proably some Jr engineer at MCA - before the merger) proably grabbed a production master out of the vault, threw it on the deck and mastered it without any extra EQ or noise reduction. I also have the "Mirror" and "Farewell to Paradise" reissues and you can hear tape drop-outs now and then. I bet these were done from production masters Dunhill-ABC sent to Japan in the early 70's and not the original first generation tapes. I hope the original masters somewhere in the Universal USA vaults are in better shape. Its a shame that many master tapes from the 70's and even into the mid 80's are quickly deteriorating. Another reason to hang onto your vinyl!
