Ira, try Casa del Populo, a small club/coffee house/bar/dj-spot up on St. 
Laurent.  Lots of cool indie stuff like the Decemberists, Papa M, 
etc.  It's a great place to hang out into the wee hours.  The four local 
free weeklies (two in French, two in English) have pretty complete club 
listings as well. Also, I think the fireworks competition on the river 
might be right around then!
