What a weekend -- I get to see my cousin get married in pretty old Bowie, MD, make it back in time to see the first full length set from Frisbie in quite a while (short report -- they have some good new songs, the musicianship is excellent, and I can't wait until they have a few more gigs and new songs under their belt), a nice late night date w/my girlfriend and after a typical Chicago Memorial Day rain, the sun is shining (like it always does on TV). And after spinning the new Wilco (flawed but with some brilliant stuff) and a Porter Waggoner comp I picked up a few weeks ago, I threw on a bootleg CD of the Traveling Wilburys. Man -- this album certainly got good notices when it came out, but it has aged really well. This is so relaxed. It's so rock and roll. I think that the relaxed fun nature of the record may be the reason that a lot of people who liked it still found it slight. Screw that! One good fun song after another. Dylan never has been as sleazy and silly as on "Dirty World". "Not Alone Anymore" ranks with any of Roy Orbison's best. Right now, I'm grooving to "Heading for the Light" -- I wish that George could have lived a couple more decades -- he and Jeff had a really great producer/performer relationship that brought out the best in each other. Well -- I better get outside soon and enjoy the holiday (not the deprecate the sanctity of it -- I saw a lot of veterans over the weekend, bless each and every one of them, living and dead) -- Mike Bennett Record reviews and more at http://fufkin.com _________________________________________________________________ Best Restaurant Giveaway Ever!
