So, I took my ten year old for his birthday and let him pick out his own store-bought cd. He picked the soundtrack to Daddy Day Care. He loves the movie and its songs. He couldn't be happier. But it dawned on me why the record companies are hurting: At Christmas, he got dvd's of Daddy Day Care and Master of Disguise. It only cost 10 bucks a movie for the dvd. This soundtrack cd for the same movie set me back 16.99 at Walmart. That's why the record companies are hurtin'! They are not a good value compared to the other disposable entertainment things available. DVD's are cheap for the value. A good xbox game is cheap for the hours of enjoyment they can bring. 16.99 for a 11 or 12 20 to 30 year old songs is just a flat-out rip. It's a choice I made for a gift. But I bet my kid wouldn't choose it with his money. The record companies just don't live in the real world. They have an over-priced, outmoded business model. And now I read they wanna jack the rates on i-tunes now. Where's the incentive to be honest and want to support them? Oh, well. At least I got to hear Ballroom Blitz from our new cd 20 times this morning......Gene
