One album I'm really enjoying right now that my pal Morley mentioned to me one of the last times I saw him (Hi, MB!), is All Night Radio's 'Spirit Stereo Frequency' (it's on SubPop). It's kinda hard to put my finger on what it sounds like... it sorta reminds me of the Flaming Lips ('Soft Bulletin' and even some of their earlier stuff, like 'Priest Driven Ambulance'), and also bands like Olivia Tremor Control ('Black Foliage'), but what I really enjoy is the "throw-it-in-a-blender-and-hit-mulch" mix of late 60's and early 70's influences...I hear snatches of the Beach Boys, early Pink Floyd, and the Byrds and the Zombies 'Oddesey & Oracle' and ....well, you get the idea... There are tons of great reviews for this one online... http://tinyurl.com/29w2o this Pitchfork review called it "meandering, blowsy psych-rock" and also had this to say: "The band's full-length debut, Spirit Stereo Frequency, is, happily, just as fuzzy and unpredictable as its namesake suggests, with high, hissing vocals, archaic-gone-futuristic blips, pedal steel, keyboards, glockenspiel, and a barrage of other noisemakers helping to build a thick, spacy stretch of soft 60s psychedelia."
