Just catching up on the past few days of audities, and I'm extremely disappointed that Anna Borg has decided to call it quits. (Anna, if you're still out there lurking, I hope you read this, or if not, I hope someone you didn't dump into your spam filter forwards this to you.) > That two people on this list told myself and Jocelyn > to “lighten up” and “take a pill” because we expressed > our opinions is very offensive to me. First, let me say that if any of my comments offended you, I am truly sorry. My comments were motivated by the same sort of disgust that people should turn a discussion about what does and does not constitute a good video into an excuse for personal attacks that obviously bothers you. > Don’t we all constantly rally and rage about the lack > of good music in popular culture? Isn’t me expressing > disappointment in the handling of one of my favorite > bands a contribution to this discussion? YES!! Your opinions have been a valuable contribution to discussion on this list. Your perspective as someone who is both "one of us" (fans of quality music, I mean) and a member of the industry, and a woman is unique, and needs to be heard...over and over again (how else can you influence/persuade people to your way of thinking?) Which is why I am so disappointed that a few meanspirited comments from people who, in the larger scheme of things, agree with you would be enough to make you want to retreat from the discussion. While we all probably secretly wish that more record label heads were like you (genuinely caring about the quality of what their bands put out, and the wellfare of the band, and not just the record sales, etc), let's face it: they're not. Don't we all spend quite of bit of audities discussion time complaining that the music industry in general is a heartless machine that cares primarily about image? The fact that some of the recent comments on audities would be enough to make you bow out makes me wonder how you are able to handle the probably meaner comments you must get (or will get) in promoting your bands to radio stations, record stores, and other people in the industry who can help them gain more mainstream acceptance. If someone says the wrong thing at the wrong time, would that be enough to make TallBoy Records vanish forever? I certainly hope not! > I understand where the director was > coming from, and that they were trying to be funny. > BUT it’s a waste of talent of the band. A huge amount > of money spent on something so fluffy and derivative, > people will forget it. Why not take that quarter of a > million dollars or whatever and have an amazing > animated video that wins awards and gets noticed? > Every other video already has half naked chicks…why > not take the clever ideas put forth in these songs and > make art? These were my issues with the video. If you disagree with how the video was done, and think that you could generate sales with something that would be worthy of the band's talent, rather than retreating, how about staying in there and fighting to prove your point? Make your kind of video for one of your bands, and get it out there and win your awards, and sell your CDs...we'd all be cheering for you! While I have no clue what kind of budget FOW really had nor what you kind of budget you have, you do have something thing that most people in the industry sorely lack: that unique combination of creativity and heart, and that might be all it takes for you to make it happen for the bands you support, but to do it in your own way..IF you are able to take the negativity in the industry long enough to stick it out until then. And that is also why your voice on audities will be missed, and I hope you reconsider and come back. -shosh __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
