I will also chime in to say what a great night we had at the Lizard Lounge -the Boston Pop Underground series is a must attend event (even if you live 6+ hours away!) I have to admit, when we were driving to Boston to the show I was thinking it would seem silly to many people to know that we were basically driving all day to see some bands and some folks we knew mainly from the internet, but I have to tell you- it is the way to go! That is how I met many of the pop folks I consider friends (and my husband) when I trekked out to the first IPO in 1998, and subsequent pop fests. Carpe diem, people. Trust me. I am a huge Candy Butchers fan, since 97 at least, and this was pretty much the best show I have seen, and I am sooooo glad that we made the "silly" trip. The band was truly on, wicked funny between songs, and the chemistry between Mike, Pete Donnelly, Mike Gent and Jed Parish was a joy to see. It had been a very long time since I had been that engaged with a performer and songs, but this show renewed my love for good music and gave me faith that someone was out there fighting the good fight. We left Fri morning and actually ran into Pete at a Mass Pike rest stop, so we were able to tell him in person what a great show it was. (I have to say I could see where it was easy for me to lose the faith - we had to go right from driving home from such a transcendent musical event to a show at the Pontiac in Philly- loud unremarkable bands and smokers everywhere) I wish we had known more auditeers in the house- I saw Brett Rosenberg (also a fave of mine) and got to chat with another Brett, Brett Milano, who is travelling down to SXSW to promote his new book "Vinyl Junkies, Adventures in Record Collecting". It was great to see some old friend from college radio/newbs days too. Next time, please say hello- CH and I tend to be the shy ones too, but always ready to talk pop! Hopefully we did not block the view of any auditeers as we tried to squish behind the sound man. Again, I will sing the praises of our own Andrea Kremer for putting together such a great lineup and series of shows. I will wear my Boston Pop Underground tee with pride! beth http://www.groupiegear.com (who was so shy she did not even get a photo with Mike Viola for the groupiegallery- badgroupie! bad!)
