in my case, i had a zine called RALPH (coffee jazz and poetry) that evolved into RALPH (ostensibly a band) and 4 cds under the "RALPH" name. it mostly went that route because i have one of those too many vowels names (ralph alfonso is a bit of an awkward mouthful) and ralph seems to be a lot easier during interviews and such. If i put one more vowel in my first name, like Ralphie, it would be better, but it may not possibly convey the necessary "artiste" vibe (hahahaaa). plus, more importantly, one word names always look bigger on gig posters (much to the annoyance of two or three worded bands)... Old Zines & Mags, odd Vinyl, weird CDs, it's all for sale here.... http://cgi6.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=beatnik_guy Dig that crazy Bongo Beat!
