In the past week I attended 2 really good shows! Last Thursday I went to the Walter Clevenger's monthly show in Orange County. On the bill, was Jesse Valenzuela of the Gin Blossoms. Jesse announce that the Gin Blossoms are in the process of recording a new album. We were lucky enough to have him a play a couple of tunes! Brand new Gin Blossoms tunes, how cool is that? Most of his set was his solo material. I really enjoyed that. I did find that his solo material to be a bit dark (many were done in minor chords) and less pop than the Gin Blossoms tunes. The highlight of the show was when Walter and the boys joined him on stage for a version of "Til I Hear it From You." I just love that tune. When the show was over, I was definitely a happy camper. Saturday I went to a show with 3 girl "pop punk" bands, The Checkers, Visiqueen and The Muffs . The Checkers are Teen-a-cide artists. They have male band with a female singer. A real 80's style about them. Visiqueen is a band from Seattle, they are more rock that pop but really tight and lots of energy. The main attration of the evening was The Muffs. It had been a few years since I had seen them play. They have a new boy drummer. This is such a high energy band. And they totally have the 3 minute pop tune down to a science. Lots of fun.
