"Life's Been Good" was a satirical look at the music biz...it only became a joke because the people it was aimed at still didn't get it. One of our classic rock acts, Goddo, just released a single this year called "Rockstar" that basically poked fun at aging, penniless rockers who, despite their fame, aren't able to pay the electrical bill at the end of every month. Radio thought this, too, was a novelty song...but worse still, were afraid of the track because it made fun of the very talent that most Classic Rock stations rely on for their playlist. Don't want to offend the aging, penniless rock stars now do we? And who made them that way? Why....it was radio, for not playing anything NEW by these acts... Hats off to Tom Petty who wrote a clever enough lyric on "Last DJ" to force it to become a damned-if-you-do/damned-if-you-don't rotation requirement. Brilliant...
