I remember reading an interview where Chris dissed "Leave the Biker" as a novelty song too. Maybe he's not as fond of the more overtly jokey numbers. I don't find anything about "Stacy's Mom" that is inconsistent with their basic style -- marrying their empathetic tales of losers with '70s and '80s AM radio style rock. Certainly they've played the Cars card before on a number of songs. Maybe the chorus booms a bit louder on this track, but it's not an anamoly (sp.?). I also wouldn't call "Stacy's Mom" a novelty song -- I reserve that for parodies or The Chipmunks or "Disco Duck" -- a humorous lyric does not automatically qualify a song as a novelty song.
