The taxi rate from JFK to Manhattan is a flat $35, plus a $4 toll and whatever gratuity you see fit to offer. This is not the cheapest route but is the only door-to-door route I know of, and has the advantage of the fare being fixed so there is no risk of the cabbie running up the tab at the expense of the unknowing out-of-towner. Cheaper would be the bus lines-- I think operated by Carey-- that run from the airport to Manhattan regularly. The problem is that they drop off at central locations-- say Grand Central Station or midtown hotels-- and you'd then have to navigate down to Soho. There may also be van services a la Super Shuttle (indeed I think I've seen Super Shuttles). These typically will take you door to door. You share with maybe 3 other people. That's probably your best alternative, if someone else can confirm.
