Two suggestions, to add to the publicity: 1. Refer to it as the world's first all-nude pop festival. If anyone calls you on the mistake, explain that you misheard -- it was someone saying David Bash is the cool dude who runs the fest. 2. Maybe it's time to start an East Coast-West Coast feud, a la the rap world. Pick an out-of-town band playing on a given night, and find fans of a local band playing that night. Tell those fans, "[Out-of-town band] says that they are going to blow [local] band off the stage, steal their [girlfriends/boyfriends/fuckbuddies] and their pussy fans will just stand there and let it happen". This could increase crowd size and make for a rowdier (and potentially more dangerous) night. On a Liverpool note -- at The Shazam show, I ran into Mike G. of Magnaphonics, who will play out there -- he was ultrageeked to be playing the Cavern Club. I hope all the performers have a great experience out there. And speaking of the Shazam, since Bob T. asked about the Chitown gig: 1. Van Go -- they are a solid meat-and-potatoes Midwest power pop outfit. Really tight, a singer with some stage presence and a fab drummer. No bad songs, though they need a couple signature tunes. 2. The Boss Martians -- Incredibly impressive Seattle unit. Echoes of The Jam and early EC and the Attractions, with a healthy dose of modern punk spunk. The lead singer was a madman and sounded much like the young Costello (and the young Graham Parker). 30 minutes into the set, I thought they had run out of ideas. Then they pulled out two killer post-modern mod stunners. I think you would really dig them, Bob, as a power popper who likes his power... 3. The Shazam -- They are simply one of the best bands on the planet. Pretty typical set. The harmony vocals are better than ever. The bass player was wilder than ever. Generally, this was good, though he overplayed a tad on "Super Tuesday". That was the best three band line up I've seen in ages... Mike Bennett NP: new Jupiter Affect...
