"Eurythmics" is an ancient Greek word that means basically, "bodies moving in rhythm," a common choreography term, and so doesn't require a definite article. It would be different if it was a shortened portmanteau word for "Rhythmic Europeans" or something. As it happens, I'm listening to Jaimie's Scarborough homeboys right this second, which reminds me that I don't think it's ever been THE Barenaked Ladies. Another missing definite article: after their second album, second-string Tennessee jangle-poppers the Judybats became simply "Judybats." Apparently the definite article was the source of all their power, though, because the two albums they did without it sucked on ice. S
