I always wondered if he was related to the family who ran Don Dixon Sound, which did the sound for most concerts in the Triangle and much of central & eastern NC from the late 50's until ??. They also rented out sound trucks that politicians used to drive around neighborhoods spouting campaign slogans (remember those, you old folks?). My first concert memories as a child (say 6 to 10) were having my dad (who did publicity for THE concert and wrestling promoter in NC & Southern Virgina - Joe Murnick) sit me down next to the Don Dixon soundman at Dorton Arena (which then was at the side of the stage - out front sound control had yet to be discovered). This nice, fat, country bumpkin fellow got to babysit me and run the sound while my dad would go BS with Murnick & his 2 sons and whatever artist management was on the road with the "stars". - michael, nostalgizing...
