Hello All, In the "Big Star as an influence on powerpop debate", I was first alerted to the existence of Big Star by members of my fave band at the time, Shoes. I remember reading an interview in Trouser Press (I believe) where either John or Jeff Murphy stated that the reason they started making music was directly the result of hearing Big Star and their music was simply an attempt to recreate the magic that was found in those grooves. I immediately went out searching for Big Star, but this was a few years before the 80s reissues and they where hard to find, or when I did find them, quite expensive. It was only much later when I finally got my hands on those records did I fully understand just how powerful those discs are and Bobby Sutliffe's story about his Big Star epiphany seems completely logical to me. Best, Herb
