Color me disappointed. But then, after listening to it a couple more times, color me intrigued. I ordered the new Asteroid #4 disc as soon as I saw it on the Not Lame site. I have been listening to their emusic downloads and King Richard for quite some time now (at least once a day) and wanted to support the band by buying their newest (I believe in supporting the bands that I find from cheap download sources, remember?). The NotLame site was clear that this was more of a countrified sound than the psychedelic sound that I was anticipating, but boy howdy! However, I grew up here in central Nebraska, and I can appreciate good alt-country, Americana, Flying Burrito style music, so I listened again, and this is solid stuff. I plan to loan it to my country-fan brother and expect him to rave about it. I don't expect this to be on my end of the year list, but it's a decent disc that's worth the investment. (I still wish they'd go back to the more psychedelic stuff - there's so few bands that do it as well as they do). (Not so coincidentally, I got the disc in the mail the same day I finally sat down to read the latest Uncut cover feature on - ta da - the Byrds)
