They were prone to get riled up if they were described as a surf band (the title of one number on their third album, *Sport Fishin'*, made that point most emphatically), and it's true that their sound was a little beefier than what you'd expect from Dick Dale or the Ventures -- but, hey, put one of their albums on at your party and see if anyone is still willing to pick that nit.
