To me, > that's far more fucked up than CDs that won't play > in your computers. > > Wendie > > ~~~~~~~~~~~okay. i've got to ask. you rarely post except to give this one opinion about how none of us know what it's like to be a starving artiste. but isn't it true that many of the people on this list ARE in fact, starving artists, label owners, and trying to "make it" and also AT THE SAME TIME want to 1. do what they want with their music and 2. think the majors suck as much as the rest of us 'non-musicians.' also...take the money and run? from the information i've been given recently, that can mean that your music gets in essence 'stolen' and held hostage if the label decides to not release it, but not let you out of your contract, holding you in music purgatory...which doesn't seem like any sort of 'bankrolled shot' at much of anything to me. and then there's the whole new angle of having to promote and payola and make videos and such so that your record/single even stands a chance, and then when it sells enough to make YOU happy/decently well off, but not enough to even -dream- of covering all those tour buses, video shoots, and oil to grease the wheels, so to speak, well, then you owe the LABEL money. wow. sounds like a deal to me. now, i know i don't know the industry. really. i'm just an outside observer with music friends. but, it just seems to me that some of us music fans have every right to have complaints, cause without us, people are going to still make music (it's in the blood), but as far as making it a full-time job? well, that's where you need people like me. jocelyn __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
