I've got some Malibooz, Jeff Foskett and even Bobby Sutliff's cover of "New York's A Lonely Town," but if Auditeers have any suggestions for great songs that belong on an all-era surf sampler, I'd like to hear them. Dom Mariani has a brand new album that consists of nothing but instrumental surf tunes: UNDERWATER CASINO by Dom Mariani and the Majestic Kelp, on Head Records. Excellent stuff. Danny McDonald's rather splendid new album, SUMMER CITY (imagine Paul Kelly's GOSSIP and UNDER THE SUN as interpreted by Brendan Benson), has a terrific instrumental surf track, "Mermaid Beach," as well as a great vocal evocation of Australian surf culture, "An Hour's Drive in a Sandman Panel Van." Clearly, Australia's got the most active surf scene of the moment! S NP: GREASE -- R. Stevie Moore
