The first time I can remember seeing the words "Power Pop" was in a Rolling Stone review of a Cheap Trick album in the late 70's. The term became far more well known in the press when the Knack exploded in '79 with "Get The Knack". When albums by 20/20, The (Paul Collins) Beat, and Shoes failed to become big sellers (though now they are classics) most of the of bands that followed in thier footsteps were pigeonholed "New Wave"..ugh! Billy >Does anyone know when the term power-pop became used to describe a genre of >music (I think Pete T just used it as a descriptive term)? Were bands like >Big Star and The Raspberries called "power-pop bands" when they started up?
