Theres another excellent chart listing at http://www.menziesera.com/media/music_number_1_hits.htm#Start Which compares the USA Billboard - Australia and UK #1 for each week from 1949 to 1972 My Birthday Song? "Big Bad John" by Jimmy Dean - Nov 25, 1961. The UK had a better #1 - Elvis' "Cant Help Falling In Love". Australia picked James Darren "Goodbye Cruel World" (I'm off to join the circus...) but earlier that year they loved Del Shannon's "Runaway" - it stayed at #1 for 6 weeks.
