After seeing the recent introduction of iTunes for MAC users (primarily) as a means to download hundreds, if not thousands, of MP3s at a nominal fee following in the footsteps of other subscriber services such as EMusic I have been contemplating launching a similar site for those of us not tied to the major label system (even iTunes has restricted what labels it will and won't deal with....indies are forced to team up with e-commerce distributors such as CDBaby). We'd be offering competitive rates to the acts (set royalty rates for master use licenses and mechanical royalties) and a low per-download/per-song fee for users (i.e. under $0.99). It would also be open to all acts...not just those affiliated to labels. I'd be interested in hearing feedback from music acts and MP3 downloaders as to what they'd like to see/not see in a service such as this.
