Has anyone else picked this up yet? I've gotten to be too dedicated a Prefab Sprout fan over the years to not order this right off the bat ($13.98 from CD-WOW.net), even though I'd already been forewarned that Paddy offers up almost nothing in the way of vocals (just on one song, "Sleeping Rough"), and even though I'd heard that the title / lead-off track was 20+ minutes long. And, well, I'm STILL diggin' it. Portions of the album are reminiscent of Angelo Badalamenti; I'm not a connoisseur of his work by any means, but even I thought that certain bits of "MEGAHERTZ" was reminiscent...though not what you'd call derivative...of the "Twin Peaks" soundtrack. Uncut, which gives it 5 stars, suggests similarities to Vivaldi as well, but I'm not qualified to agree or disagree with that assessment; the magazine's review also opens by saying, "Paddy McAloon's solo album is like no other record you've heard. It's strange, beautiful, serene, perverse and almost unbearably sad." Seems accurate enough to me... Regards, WiLL WiLLiAm E. HaRRiS Call Scripting Analyst Bernard C.
