> Mick Ronson produced the demos for the tracks that ended up on Sparks' BIG > BEAT. In an interview with Ira Robbins in Trouser Press, Ron and Russell > Mael stated that these demos were much better than what got released (BIG > BEAT was Sparks' 'guitar' album -- Rupert Holmes produced it in the most > curious fashion -- it just sounds a bit off). Someday I hope these demos > surface, particularly since I presume Mick played guitar on the demos. I love BIG BEAT - it's my favorite Sparks album and I have all but the last couple - but that record with Mick's touch (and guitar playing) would be incredible! A good parallel to draw (in my imagination) would be what he brought to YOUR ARSENAL for Morrissey. Mike, did the Maels mention why they went with Rupert (no relation) over Ronson? And to the person who voiced that Ronno was so much more than the guitar player whom I lauded, I agree wholeheartedly, and am well aware of his accomplishments. Wasn't slighting his contribution in the least, merely celebrating the level of appreciation I had for him as a guitar player (although I'm pretty sure your intent was just to laud some huzzahs on the late great one as well). cheers bill
