With all the talk about the Dixie Chicks and Toby Keith, etc., I have to recommend the South Park episode in which anti- and pro-war rallies face off in a duet of "I'm a Little Bit Country, I'm a Little Bit Rock and Roll." By the way, if the Dixie Chicks are to be lauded for traditionalism - as they were by Bill -then why did they unceremoniously dump their original (more traditional, retro) lead singer to hire Natalie Maines. To be fair, though, the whole search for "authenticity" is in itself often a condescending attitude imposed on "roots" music by outsiders. Why can't country music evolve like any other genre. (Granted, though, a lot of recent country hits are schlock.) I can't take anything the Dixie Chicks say seriously -even when they're naked! Just last year wasn't it discussed on the list that they railed against the way record companies operated, calling them all thieves, then quickly changed their tune when they got a big new contract? Also, Toby Keith has put out some entertaining songs like "I Wanna Talk about Me" and "How You Like Me Now." _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 helps eliminate e-mail viruses.
