I know that Stewart once wrote that when the name of Hitler is invoked in an 
Internet discussion, the discussion is pretty much too far gone (I'm 
paraphrasing big time on that one).  Likewise, if you compare most acts to 
The Beatles on all the criteria Stewart listed, pretty much everyone will 
fall short.  Babe Ruth and Dave Winfield are both in the Hall of Fame, and 
as fine a player as Winfield was, he can't really hold a candle to the 
Bambino.

Anyway, the whole 'right place at the right time' and 'omnipresent' isn't 
really about being timeless -- it's more about being deified.  If you're 
talking timeless, maybe it's better to look at The Kinks and The Zombies.  
They didn't sell nearly as well as The Beatles, but their music has 
withstood the test of time. And I think the same will be true of Fountains 
of Wayne, The Posies and some of the other top artists in the pop/power pop 
field, because the songs will have an appeal and resonance that are not 
simply of their time.
