SIDEKICK might not be the greatest LP, but Will toured on that record under the name WIPE ME MOMMY. It was interesting -- when I interviewed the dBs (Peter and Rick Wagner, who played bass for them briefly), my encounters with Will weren't that pleasant -- he seemed pretty cranky. But when he came back to Carbondale (with Peter opening for him), he was a swell guy. On the record, I found his cover of Hank Williams' "Setting The Woods On Fire" to be pretty charming. Live, I dug his cover of Bill Withers' "Use Me" and when he sang with a large foam rubber fish (large, like in it was like a foam flounder that was about as big as he was) draped on his back. It's great that Will is in good health and playing with Steve Earle again. dBs fans should go to their website (dbsonline.net) as there are MP3s of old live material, including a Metro gig I attended.
