First, since this conversation has thus far been
pretty male-heavy, I just wanna represent for tha
ladeeez, and say that, while I have tried heartily,
and while I have always been involved with music FANS,
I have never managed to date anyone who is more of a
music geek  than I am.  There's actually a very good
article about women record collectors in the new issue
of 'Bitch' magazine, and one of the biggest complaints
of the rekkidgrrls there is the assumption that, if
you do happen to be knowledgeable and passionate about
music, it must be because a former boyfriend or other
male "trained you" to have good taste.  That's
certainly an assumption that has always frustrated me.

That said, I must also speak up in defense of Cher.  I
took my Mom to see the first leg of her "farewell"
tour last August, and we had so much fun!  Go into it
as spectacle, not rock show, and you may enjoy it a
lot more.  There are dancers, there are acrobats,
there's a giant rolling elephant, there are costume
changes up the wazoo...look at it as a circus.  And I
do think Cher is kind of a badass.  She's just done
whatever she has wanted to do for more almost 40
years, and she's the only artist ever to have top 10
hits in four different decades.  Even though I'm not
big on the whole plastic surgery thing, I do think
that, in some ways, much like Madonna, she has always
been in control of the manipulation of her image, and
has a lot of power through that fact.  Further, I
think she has a lot of catchy songs, and when I'm
looking to go out and dance, I much prefer to hear
songs like 'Believe' or 'Song for the Lonely' than
some hit by a mostly-naked chicky half (or less!) her
age.

In fact, Cher began the concert I saw with the
comment:  "There are a lot of young girls coming up
these days -- Britney, Christina, J-Lo.  What do I
have to say to those young performers? -- Follow this,
bitches!"  And then began the festivities.  And I have
to admit that I found that really funny, which is
another thing Cher has always been.  

Go Cher!  Go girl music geeks!
