Albums may take up a lot of space, but I do find it sad that this is the fate
of many collections. I have a lot of vinyl around the house. Karen has her own
big collection as well. On top of that there is the "thrift shop collection"
that sits in the hifi cabinet for easy access. I buy records when and where
ever I can find them. Just listening to a Jackie Mason comedy album, maybe his
first. Also picked up the Man With A Golden Arm soundtrack at the same stop.
Our guest from Australia was a little surprised at my excitement, until he
heard it. Amazing. Today I came home with a Four Freshmen and an import copy
of a George Shearing lp. Those were beat, but play well.

The real collection gets a lot of attention. I lug up a bag of vinyl with me
when I do my radio show. There is so much that I only have on lp or 45s. With
this guest coming to town, I was forced to put away all the piles of stuff
that was in the studio/record library/guest room. I didn't know if it would
all fit, so I started looking for stuff to put in the closet. I didn't have
much luck with that. Only a couple things got moved. Ah, but the real treat
was finding that I hadn't sold my Pink Faries lps. I was looking for City Kids
a while back, when it appeared on Deep Reduction II. I couldn't find them at
the time, and figured they'd gone in the big trade I did back in '85. While
sorting through the stacks the other day I found that my three pink Fairies
had been filed on the wrong side of Pink Floyd. Nice to find them, all
originals in great shape.

This is not to say I don't also own cds. They are convenient and they do sound
good, for the most part. Still there are some tunes you are never going to get
on cd in the original form. Far too much has gone missing or worse, been
remixed....
