Hi All! I got interested in this about 18 months ago whilst looking for a topic to write a thesis on and so decided to examine the characteristics of power pop subcultures and see how they compared to other underground cultures - some of you may remember filling out a questionaire for me (thanks for that!). I examined not only who the people on this list (and the Jelly-L list) are, but also what they (you?) liked about the 'scene' etc and their musical consumption. One of the most astounding facts was that out of nearly 200 people surveyed, over 97% described themselves as either full/part time or amatuer musicians or as working within the music industry. Most of these stated they either played in a band or wrote/recorded music for fun if nothing else! I really enjoyed finding out so much about the people on this list but it was difficult to stay objective as I was not only defining all you guys, but myself as well. In my conclusion I just wrote that power pop fans were on the whole, fantastic people with great taste, extremely attractive, talented and truly wonderous people! (told you it was hard to be objective! :) Russ... --- "Seaman, Dave" wrote: > > << > > My name's John Micek, and I live in Harrisburg, Pa., > where I front a > "pop" > band called Milkshake Jones > by night I contribute to music > magazines such as The Big Takeover, Pop Culture > Press and (until > recently) PopMatters.com.>>>> > > Is it just me, or are most of the audities > subscribers either working > musicians, otherwise in the music biz (critics, > record label folks, etc.), > or (like myself) would-be musicians who have played > at some point and/or do > it as a hobby but now playing music takes a back > seat to the day > job/family/etc. ?
