Every time I try to go back and see what others see in 'em, whenever my ears prick up and I think "wow, that's a really great song!", I'll then pick up the jewel box, examine the booklet, and see that the songwriting credit reads "N. Finn." In fact, I've decided that I don't like Tim Finn at all. The Finn Brothers stuff doesn't do anything for me, and the WOODFACE songs where Tim's influence seems most prominent ("Chocolate Cake," "There Goes God") mar what is otherwise an outstanding album. Tim's songs often strike me as overly jokey, way too precious, and laden with lyrical clunkers. Neil, on the other hand, seems to have matured by the end of the Enz into a mature, stunning talent, and he's been one of my favorite songwriters for quite some time. Actually, of the early '70s artsy weird-pop folks that predate the Punk/New Wave explosion of '77 and were oft mistaken for New Wave bands afterwards -- Sparks, Split Enz, 10cc -- the only one I consistently enjoy is... 10cc. shark pretty attack, Miles
