I saw mention of this on artofthemix.org and went to the Weezer site to 
read more. Apparently McCool was a big Weezer fan and brought the Weezer 
blue album onto the shuttle as one of his personal items. He planned to 
give the band a photo of the album floating in space.

Obviously that's just an insignificant bit of trivia in light of the 
tragedy, but I wasn't expecting to  stumble upon a Weezer connection.
