Nada Surf -- LET GO -- this is manages to blend pop sensibility into post-Radiohead contemporary rock. At times, songs are reminiscent of the spookier sides of bands like Fingerprintz and The Vapors. This sounds like it will get a lot of time in the CD player. Jon Langford and His Sadies -- MAYORS OF THE MOON -- This is pretty typical Langford, and a lot of these numbers could have fit in just as well on a Waco Brothers or Mekons disc. But there are a few songs where the collaboration really blends splendidly, creating something that neither artist might have come up with alone. FIFTH OR SIXTH IMPRESSION -- Zwan -- forgot the title -- If you liked the more melodic side of the Pumpkins, a la "Today" and "1979", this will make you happy. Corgan still can't sing, but he does have a vocal personality and strains his limitations less often then before. The new band is stellar (and keeping Jimmy Chamberlain on drums is so right -- a great drummer). Not everything works, but Corgan is wholly incapable of making a consistent record. He's slowly but surely won me over -- not great, but entertaining.
