Im all for a Marshall Crenshaw tribute - its about time someone paid attention to his songwriting, which has always been consistent and tuneful. Not Lame would be a good home for it. A Cars tribute would be a treat if the compilers keep Punk-Pop and Ska bands from bashing through 100 mph covers of "Just What I Needed". An Hall & Oates comp would be interesting and gutsy idea, I just think would be a hard sell - with their current rep it makes as much sense as a Huey Lewis & The News tribute. Despite all those annoying CHR hits they did record a lot of excellent LP material in the 70's-Early 80's (John Oates "Friday Let Me Down" from "Private Eyes" is a longtime favorite) Billy At 02:54 PM 1/31/03 -0500, you wrote: >----- Original Message ----- >From: >To: >Sent: Friday, January 31, 2003 8:58 AM >Subject: Tributes? > > > > Awhile back there was discussion of what artists, if any, were deserving >of > > one of the fantastic power-pop tributes that this community is known for. > > After much thought, I nominate the following three: > > > > The Cars > > Marshall Crenshaw > > Hall & Oates > >As far as a Cars tribute, I'd have to say that's just what I needed.
