I thought about Audities yesterday with two giants leaving us.
I also reflected on my own connection to them.
Eric Carmen was the first concert I ever attended. He warmed up for Sweet during the tour of his solo release. We actually went more for Carmen at that time.
I saw World Party at First Avenue back when Good Bye Jumbo was released. My wife and I went and I also invited some friends from work. That is always so risky to do as sometimes others just wonât have the same thrill in discovering the artist live for the first time. That show remains one of the great shows I ever saw. For contrast, Taking Heads in 1979 is one too and were great in the pure edge and punk vibe they had at that moment in time. While Karlâs performance was full on joyfulness and groove. Yes, my workmates were also ear to ear grinning and dancing through out the show at First Ave.
Then we saw Karl at a show.. maybe 8 years ago (?). It was such a joy to see him again. The performance was still terrific. They added a second show to follow as that first show had sold out. Since the later one did not he invited anyone who wanted to see the show again to stay. We did. What a man, what performer and wha a huge loss. Still feeling sad about it.
Warm wishes,
Steve D.
