I started high school when Shindig debuted and all of us who were musically inclined watched every minute and debated about the merits of the various performances.
What is fascinating to me is to notice the technical attributes of that lengthy medley. Look closely; there was no lip-synching but every performer hit their marks and were right in tune. Then think about the fairly large house band shown behind Billy Preston. They changed tempos, keys and melodies on a dime over and over without any music sheets. If you look closely you'll see that this was season 1 episode 39 and they pulled off this kind of wonderful performance time and again. A lot of the artists weren't my brand of rockers but it was fascinating to look back.
