"On August 12th, in 1967, a piece of enduring Rock and Roll lore took
place in Asbury Park, NJ. It was just after the Who performed at
Convention Hall on their first U.S. tour opening for the band Hermanâs
Hermits. After the requisite instrument smashing ritual that usually
closed their performances, the story goes that madman drummer Keith Moon
jumped off the back of the building into the ocean in an attempt to
evade throngs of adoring fans that had swarmed the stage."Â Â The rest of
the story is here:

I have read the newspaper review of the concert, and there was no
mention of this at all.  They did mention the crowd was small. And the
first group was the Blues Magoos
I grew up on 60s music, listening to the radio constantly.  But I was
too young to have actually experienced the 60s.
