I was so disappointed that I missed the premiere earlier this month
because I was already committed elsewhere (missed John Hiatt for the
same reason that same weekend, but that's another story).
That first album gobsmacked me when it came out (as did everything on
Big Sound Records) and I've been a fan since; fortunate to have been
able to interview him early on and stay in touch afterwards. Supremely
talented and nice guy who is criminally unknown and underappreciated,
and while I doubt this film will launch him into the Gaga stratosphere,
I think word of mouth will suss out the subset of fans who deserve to
know. And oh, how I envy them the joy of listening to ARE YOU SERIOUS
for the first time...
Most know I'm a massive Kinks fan - there are actually *two* fan-based
documentaries about trying to tip the planet back on the right axis so
they stop ignoring a great artist. I'm figuring this doc might call them
to mind as well (Geoff Edgers, former Boston Globe now Washington Post
writer, made DO IT AGAIN...hopefully still showing up at festivals
somewhere; contains a few of our Audities heroes preaching and
testifying in words and music.)
Cheers

PS - Van is also writing a bio. Considering his musical past...wow!
