62...waaay too young.

Beyond the amazing impact the music of The Smithereens had for me, I was
fortunate enough to meet him a few times and interview him twice.
Extraordinary dude and a great singer and songwriter.

Saw The Smithereens several times (always awesome) and once was lucky
enough to see him jump onstage at Manitoba's for a Beatles medley when I
was in NYC for the night.

One of my favorite road trips was heading to New Jersey with my friend
Bill for Pat's annual fundraiser party for the local Italian American
Hall - which his grandfather helped build. Grip Weeds, Graham Parker,
Smithereens and The Scotch Plainsmen, which was his all star band of
locals killing Beatles/60s classics. Pat's mom cooked and served the
food! Everyone got to mingle and meet; we sat with a DJ from Hawaii who
flew in with his wife just for the occasion.

As we get older it's only natural that we lose some of our musical
heroes from old age, but losing people this young is a gut punch. Tom
Petty, Tommy Keene, Greg Trooper, Pat...not fair.

Play some Smithereens today...LOUD.
