An email from Michael always makes my day better! Going to see Chuck
Prophet next week, a day before seeing Dan Baird (who has a new solo
album *and* a new Homemade Sin album out!). Like many of my faves (i.e.
Ian Hunter) he's aging like fine wine.
Grabbed the Bash & Pop but haven't heard yet. Still can't wrap my head
around Tommy as the bassist for G&R.
Jayhawks are very busy in 2015 - don't forget another elder statesman,
Sir Ray Davies also has a new one, and the Jayhawks are the backing
musicians.
Despite the plethora of new music - and there is a lot so far - the
album I have played the most in 2017 is MYSTERY TO ME by Fleetwood Mac.
I don't know why the Bob Welch era of the band gets no respect; that
album along with FUTURE GAMES and BARE TREES easily forms my favorite
era of the band. Besides Welch's great input, I was also mesmerized by
Christine McVie (over Stevie...much like preferring MaryAnn over Ginger,
or Bailey Quarters over Jennifer). No knock on the blues era or the
popular later years, but artistically that's the era that has burrowed
in deep and sounds as great today as it did 40 years ago.
For the powerpop side of this list, I highly recommend RYAN HAMILTON and
the TRAITORS.
