Joe T, thanks for the info (hey dude),  Ariel Ballet is one of the few Nilsson albums I have not heard.  I knew someone out there would know.  I was snooping around amazon.com and saw that there was an excellent box set of the Nilsson RCA years with 3 discs of rarities, demos and what not.

Friends, The commercials for the movie TED 2 (I know, I know) contain a faithful recreation of the Nilsson TV theme "Best Friend".  Anyone know who is singing it? The arrangement of the horns and stuff are so close to the original.  The vocal is almost spot on but there is a regional twang of some kind that is "the tell".
This leads to the next question.  I have the TV themes collections that went to great lengths to get the best recordings of the theme songs, but always, the original Nilsson, sounds like it was recorded with a hand held mic in front of a 1960's bad TV speaker.  Was there a ever a release of this in any better shape on any Nilsson rekkid or collection?  Is there a story here?
Wondering because I have too much time on my hands.
Thanks, Tom

I'm not aware of any actual release unless it's on some Tee-Vee Toons album from the late 80's early 90's. There is however a studio version by Nilsson of the original song on the album "Aerial Ballet" called "Girlfriend" which is the same song with different words. He rearranged it and changed the words for the TV show. Here's a link to the original:

hope that helps...
