Hi Gary

Thanks for the note.  Yes, Vintage Vinyl added that "top quality bin" stuff but the prices range from $12 to $22 for decent records I can get cheaper on eBay.  I did buy 2 things there for Christmas presents.  Their real treasures hang on the wall but those rare items typically cost from $25 to $200.

I was speaking with the GM of PRE while there last night and in the last month they've purchased about 25k jazz LPs and also 26k gently used rock CDs from MTV's now-defunct internet radio station so they are bursting at the seams.  He says they sell at least 15,000 LPs a month.

That accounts for their amazing turnover.  It's funny because I was on the hunt for some Blues or Soul LPs last night and the selection was way down from my trip last month when I hit some home runs.

Mike

100% agree. Vintage Vinyl used to have mostly VG stuff at bargain prices, but they recently added a large selection of EX/NM LPs which are still decently priced, I believe. It's in the front of the store all the way to the right side. In addition to the vinyl, PRE also has a large variety of used bargain CDs. Both are highly recommended.

Hi Ralph and everyone else

I am a major vinyl crate-digging hound who lives in NJ and near NYC. Iown about 3,000 LPs and Rick is right. I'm in the city quite a bit and if I stroll into a store there I'll poke around but usually find the selection to be so-so and the prices to be stupid.

So head for my home state and I will give you 2 great recommendations. #1 far and away is the Princeton Record Exchange near the university. It is amazing. Check out their website. Here's the most amazing part and I have been shopping there for about 30 years and still can't figure it out.... the typical price for the stuff I like best (blues, 60s-70s rock, R&B LPs) is probably in the $5 to $8 range and the quality of the vinyl is astounding. Where the heck do they continually find VG++ to M- records, hundreds of them, year after year? Well, they do, and they don't gouge you for them. They also have I would guess 10,000 LPs in their dollar crates. That is NOT a typo.

Yeah, a few of the clerks have a bit of an attitude but I go to the counter and check out in 5 minutes so who cares, really.... it is easy to spend $150 and walk out with 2 overflowing PRE shopping bags. BTW, it's about an hour from the city.

The other place I'll recommend is Vintage Vinyl on Rt 1 in Fords, NJ. Not anywhere as much stuff as PRE but equally good prices and a superior selection of punk stuff. It's where I go every Record Store Day. They also have great in-store performances by some pretty famous artists.

Contact me off-line if you need more info.
